Apple announced today their stunning over-the-ear headphones, the AirPods Max. It comes in five colors: space gray, silver, sky blue, green and pink at a price of $549. You can start ordering today with availability starting on December 15th.
The AirPods Max features a custom acoustic design, H1 chips, Adaptive EQ, Active Noise Cancellation, Transparency mode and spatial audio. The stainless steel headband has a breathable knit mesh canopy is adjustable and made to distribute weight and reduce on-head pressure that all too often happens when you have headphones on for too long. The ear cushions features acoustically engineered memory foam to create an effective seal. Each cup can pivot and rotate according to the user's head movement. The digital crown, borrowed from the Apple Watch, is used to control the volume, play/end music, skip tracks, answer/end calls, and activate Siri.
Apple touts a breakthrough listening experience, delivering "a rich, deep bass, accurate mid-ranges, crisp, clean high-frequency extension so every note can be heard". It has the same setup experience as the AirPods and AirPods Pro, making it super easy to pair and use right away. It can sense when the user has the headphones on the head, allowing the audio to pause when the user removes the headphones or even just lifts one side of the ear cups.
The battery life lasts up to 20 hours of audio, talk time, or movie playback time and comes in a slim smart case. Additional features also include automatic switching between iPhone, iPad and Mac, and audio sharing (share audio streams between two sets of AirPods on iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Apple TV 4K).
